Jack Symes

Jack Symes farewell tour.

In collaboration with cinematographer Reggie Chelsom, I created titles for a live music video for musician Jack Symes. The song has more of a folk feel to it, so I opted for a more classic typeface, with a slight western flair to it. I was inspired by stickers on the side of amps, or slapped on concert posters, which is how I arrived at the slanted type for the main and song title.

Process

Below are other options and ideas I was working through. I chose to go with a serif font that called back to western spaghetti films, as a nod to the folk sound. I chose the sans serif for the artist name and show info to merge classic and modern. For the final solution, the artist liked the serif but wanted to simplify it slightly, so I removed the shadow and outline.
